“We got the phone, we got the mission.”

The record

It opens with a school bell and a spoken dedication — From Bogichora Ward. This is Makairo. — and everything after is written for the students standing at that gate: the Grade 10 generation, the first cohort of Kenya’s senior-school era, loading into classrooms at the exact moment the tools of production fit in a uniform pocket.

The premise of the track is the premise of the studio: nobody is coming to discover these students, and they do not need discovering. They have the phone; the phone is a studio; the mission is to upload. "They look at us, they don’t see the vision" is not a complaint — it is a status report filed seconds before the vision ships anyway. Young kings rising from the red ground, log drums under a choir, homework and a hashtag in the same bag.
