Published for anyone to runA KES 1,000 WhatsApp Campaign, Step by Step
The ten-dollar playbook: how to run a Meta click-to-WhatsApp campaign at the frontier, what to expect, and what to measure.
At the frontier, the conversion surface is not your website — it is WhatsApp. The phone in the pocket already has it, it works on one bar of signal, and a conversation is a lower wall than a form. So the ten-dollar playbook is built around Meta’s click-to-WhatsApp objective: the ad’s only job is to open a chat.
Setup: one campaign, one ad set, KES 1,000 total. Budget split 200/day for two days (the learning phase — let the algorithm find its people), then 120/day for five. Targeting stays narrow and honest: one country, an age band that matches the offer, a handful of interest signals, and extra weight on the districts you can actually serve. A broad audience buys impressions; a narrow one buys neighbours.
Creative follows the same canon as everything else — no faces required, high contrast, the offer stated in plain terms and the terms real. If the ad says five seats, there are five seats. The click-to-chat auto-reply carries the entire funnel: what this is, the one link that matters, and what happens after — written once, delivered instantly, at 2am as reliably as at noon.
Filing discipline: every route in the funnel uses exact subject or first-message codes, so a human with a phone can triage intake the way a server would — by string match. This is how a two-person operation handles a hundred conversations without a CRM.
Honest expectations at East African CPMs: KES 1,000 buys roughly 6,000–20,000 impressions; at a 1–3% click-through that is 60–600 opened chats; at a 20–40% chat-to-action rate, 12–240 completions — plan on the low end and be pleased. The break-even math is what makes the whole thing rational: if the eventual offer is worth KES 6,000, one conversion returns the entire spend six times over.
Measure three numbers daily and ignore the rest: cost per opened chat (walk away from anything above ~KES 33), chat-to-action rate, and completions attributable to the window. Kill underperforming creative on day three without sentiment. The budget is small precisely so the lessons are cheap.
